Steel Bridge

Steel Bridge is an annual project where we design and fabricate a 1:10 scale model of a bridge.  The bridge we design must be able to withstand a load of 2400 lbs and meet the rules for competition at the Pacific Southwest Regional Conference (PSWC).  Steel bridge is a great opportunity for those who enjoy a hands on experience.  Every piece of the bridge is fabricated by our team in the structures lab. Upon completion of every bridge member, we practice assembling our bridge for a competitive time.  At the PSWC, the Student Steel Bridge Competition is one of the two largest events. Each year, we plan to dominate the competition with the hope to reach the National Student Steel Bridge Competition. In 2014 and 2015, the Steel Bridge team made it to the national competition.

If you are interested in being part of this exciting project, please contact the concrete canoe captains via email.

My name is Jaren Agliam and I am this year's ASCE Steel Bridge Captain. I am a graduate of Damien Memorial School in beautiful Kalihi. The reason I joined ASCE was to meet new people and enlarge my network. Having new friends is always an awesome thing and that's why I love ASCE. In my free time I enjoy playing video games such as CSGO or PUBG and stream when I have free time. I also like to powerlift, play guitar, and usually I'm down for anything.

Hey it's me again (if you’re reading this now, you can find me under Community Service too!), Joshua Agpaoa. I’m from  the island of Kauai and graduated from Kauai High School in 2014. Even though Xavier is a cool guy, I am also the Steel  Bridge Build Captain for this year. I’ve been in ASCE for about a year and a half and the people I’ve met have made the  time worthwhile. My goals in steel bridge are to be able to provide the great atmosphere I had when I joined the team,  win Charlie back, and to place top three at PSWC. In my free time I like to play Kingdom Hearts, listen to and make  music!

Hi, I'm Carl Cedric Balon and I graduated from Waipahu High School in 2014.  I joined ASCE Last year.   Last year, I was apart of the fundraising committee, and the Steel Bridge build team which made my first year at manoa a great experience.  Through ASCE, I was able to meet a lot of new people that have helped me through my studies.  The best part about ASCE is that the people are always there to help others.  As Steel bridge captain, I hope to get all members involved through all aspects of the steel bridge such as fabrication, design, and build. I also hope to place in the top three at PSWC and advance to nationals.  In my free time, I like to ball up, so lace em up!
