Concrete Canoe
The Concrete Canoe Competition involves earning points for paddling races, a design paper, an oral presentation, and a final product. For the construction of a competitive canoe, students on the concrete canoe team put countless man-hours into ideas for a hull design, experimenting with different mix designs, and conducting strength tests to determine the best concrete mix for producing a sturdy yet buoyant and lightweight product. The team also acquires hands-on experience in creating a mold for the canoe and paddling to compete in a series of races. After months of paddling practice, the team placed 2nd in Women's Sprint, 3rd in Men's Sprint, 2nd in Women's Slalom, and 2nd in Men's Slalom. They also placed 3rd for their Project Proposal. Overall, the Canoe team placed 3rd overall at PSWC 2022.

Mix Design Captain
Dea Bongolan
Civil Engineering, Senior deab@hawaii.edu Aloha! My name is Dea Bongolan, this year's Recording Secretary and Concrete Canoe Mix Design Captain. I graduated from Waipahu High School in 2019. Currently, I am a senior studying in Civil Engineering with plans to pursue a Master's Degree through the BAM program and then work in the construction sector after graduation. I've been a member of ASCE since the Spring of 2020. Throughout this period of time, I've made countless amounts of connections, friendships, and memories. I wish I had joined sooner rather than later and started my membership at the start of Fall 2019. My goals as Recording Secretary are to undertake sophisticated clerical and secretarial work including frequent detailed administrative obligations. As the Concrete Canoe Mix Design Captain, my goals are to accomplish and achieve the designed/necessary workability at all phases, the desired minimum strength in the hardened stage, and the desired durability in the given environmental circumstances. Outside of ASCE, I enjoy traveling around the world, playing video games, and relaxing/chillaxing both indoors and outdoors. |
